Fundraising Ideas & Tips for Schools
5/7/2013
This article is about fundraising ideas for schools and will give a few examples of different types of fundraising as well as the benefits of them.

These days with the decrease in funding and the increase in expenses, school fundraisingis more important than ever. Bake sales, car washes, door to door catalog sales, silent auctions, and fundraising dinners are all popular ideas, but some are more successful than others. Additionally you may be over looking other ideas that may work just as well, if not better.

Host a Bake Sale

If you are going to try a bake sale, you need to plan well ahead of time. Do your research. Find out which locations in your town or neighborhood work best, and make reservations or get permission from the right person. The key to any successful sale is in marketing. Make sure people know about the sale weeks before it happens. This is a good tip to keep in mind, no matter what kind of fundraiser you are putting together.

If the right resources come together, you might be able to plan a large scale bake sale and make a lot of money for your school. If you have enough booths and tables, you could hold the bake sale in your school’s gym or parking lot.

Solicit donations from local bakeries, and parents who are known for their baked goods. Baking, particularly cupcakes has made a real comeback in the last couple of years, and you might be supervised how many talented bakers are associated with your school. If you are lucky, some of them might even have fans.

School Wide Sales Drives

A school wide sales drive is great way to for the students at your school to learn some valuable skills and to help raise money for your school. There are a variety of ideas and events schools and PTA members can do to raise the money needed. Custom car magnets (LogoMagnet) are a fun way to show off school spirit and pride and take less effort then products such as cookie dough that need to be refrigerated. Other options include having students sell items from a catalog, such as Holiday paper wrapping, cookies or candles. This method can help teach kids a safe way to approach strangers and builds their self-confidence.

One of the biggest advantages to a school wide sales drive is that almost any kid at any age can participate and sale at least a few items. Most kids will have a few family members or family friends who will be interested in supporting the cause, and a popular item like car magnets will almost sell themselves.

School fundraisers can be great way to get the whole community together to support the school, and can help teach kids valuable lessons and learn important real life skills.
