The Animal Protection League of SC (APL) is a local non-profit humane organization founded in 1982 by concerned individuals who love and respect animals. Our goal is to provide a safe haven for the communitys abused and abandoned dogs and cats and place them in permanent loving homes.

Plan Now for Pet (and People!) Photos with Santa
Fundraising events to be held at local pet stores during December.
APL volunteers will be taking photos of Santa with your pets at various pet store locations throughout December. For a $10 donation to the APL, you get a photo of your pet and Santa in a festive holiday frame. Don't have a pet? Then you, a friend, or your entire family can get in on the fun.
Surprise your friends and family this year with this special picture in your holiday greeting cards. Spread the word to your friends who care about animals, and invite them to come out to one of the following locations to get their pet's picture taken with Santa, too:
December 11: Animal Supply House in Lexington
December 11 and 12: PetSmart on Two Notch Road (Northeast)
December 18: Animal Supply House in Irmo
A few hours of your time can make a big difference. If you can help at Animal Supply House, please contact Joyce. If you can help at PetSmart, call Judy at 782-5728.
Honor Loved Ones This Holiday Season with a Black Pearl Gift
Make a donation in someones honor, and we will send your gift for you.
The APL has worked for years to draw attention to the plight of Black Pearlsthose precious black dogs and cats who end up in shelters across the country in disproportionate numbers and who are statistically more likely to be euthanized than other cats and dogs.
For a donation of $50 or more, you can honor or memorialize a loved one with one of three Black Pearl gift options:
A card announcing that your gift in the special person's honor or memory will be used to help spay or neuter a Black Pearl cat or dog in 2011.
A two-toned cotton tote bag with the Black Pearl logo on both sides.
A shirt with an embroidered Black Pearl logo.
All three gifts will include a letter explaining the Black Pearl program and, for the first time this year, a picture collage of many of our APL black pearls.
To honor or memorialize someone this holiday season, fill out the sponsorship form and mail it in along with your donation to the APL, PO Box 5354, Columbia, SC 29250.
Order by December 17 to ensure local delivery by Christmas. Out-of-town deliveries may take longer.
A Charming Holiday Gift Idea
Your purchase of these sterling silver charms will help the APL and ASPCA.
The good folks at Roof Jewelers at 6829 Two Notch Road have always been big APL supporters. Now they have teamed up with a national campaign to sell sterling silver charms to benefit both the APL and the ASPCA.
Each sterling silver Dog Lover or Cat Lover charm is approximately the size of a nickel (see larger view). It would make a great addition to a charm bracelet or could be worn on a chain as a necklace.
Here is the best part: when you purchase these charms for just $30 each, $10 of the purchase price goes to support the APL and another portion goes to support the ASPCA in its national efforts to prevent cruelty to animals.
One of these charms would make a perfect gift for all the special women you'd like to honor during the holidays.
Call Roof Jewelers at 803-788-2644 to find out more about these charms. Stop by the store today to buy one for all the special animal lovers in your life. You can visit Roof Jewelers online at RoofJewelers.com.
