MELC is the largest, oldest and most established Montessori school in Columbia, South Carolina. Founded July 15, 1976 MELC offers the full spectrum of the Montessori environment in the purest European tradition. All teachers are European trained and our diplomas are considered by Federal guidelines as the foreign equivalent of a Master's degree.

MELC is open 11 hours a day to fit any parents work schedule. We open at 7:30 a.m. Monday-Friday and close at 6:00 p.m.

5. A complete campus setting.
With five acres campus, MELC is home to a swimming pool, free standing library, 2,100 square foot arts building and recital hall, spray pool and multiple playgrounds.

Parent/teacher meetings are an integral part of the MELC experience.

7. A professional office staff on hand full time to assist parents.

MELC uses a telephone alert system should an emergency arise as well as e-mail alerts. Every parent gets a monthly newsletter and calendar the 3rd week of each month.

MELC has 4 different playgrounds totaling 3 and 1/2 acres. All play grounds are well equipped and a new soccer field is under construction.

Our campus features a custom designed pool for children. The 20 x 50 foot in ground pool features a permanent roof to block out harmful UV rays, is heated with solar panels and has a salt filtration system rather than the harsh chlorine. There is no additional charge for swimming lessons
