Summer has arrived and with it some really hot and humid days. As you are enjoying the lazy days of summer and your vacations, time on the golf course or the water, I want to wrap up some loose ends in order to make certain that we dont miss out on anything happening in and around the church.
Vacation Bible School has recently concluded. What a great time everybody had as children and adults gathered for immersion in the Word of God. Beginning with great food, fellowship, and song, we then had opportunity to spend time learning about Gods love for His people and how we might better respond to that love and share it with others. It was a wonderful week and I want to thank everyone who worked to make it another successful Vacation Bible School. THANKS!

Serving Christ through the Centuries

St. John's Lutheran Church is the "Mother Church of Lutheranism" in Charleston and in South Carolina. With a history spanning over 250 years, she is among the oldest of congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Ministry to Others

We are a congregation who believes we have been called "to know Christ... and to make Christ known" by transforming ourselves, the community, and the world for Christ.

Welcome to St. John's!

Thank you for visiting St. John's. Your presence adds to the beauty of the songs we sing and the glory of the worship we offer God our Creator, Christ our Savior, and the Holy Spirit our Companion.

Diverse Opportunities

The word is the heart and spirit of the church; the congregation is its lifeblood. The diverse programs at St. John's are designed to uplift the spirit and the body of every member through a diverse offering of programs to promote education and fellowship.

Christmas Poinsettias and Wreaths
It is the time of the year when we order poinsettias to be placed in St. Johns Lutheran Church for Christmas services. Poinsettias are $13.00 each. You may also make a donation to help offset the cost of door wreaths, Advent wreath, and bows. Order forms will be in the bulletin, or you can call the church office to place your order. All orders must be placed and paid for by December 20th.

Our Thanksgiving service will beheld on November 23rd, at 7:00 pm. Following the service, we will enjoy a reception in the Parish Hall. This is atime to remember all the blessings in our lives and give thanks. Please plan on being with us for worship, music and fellowship.

This new monthly ministry includes Christian educational opportunities, a congregational meal, and a specific time and place for our Little Luther League and our Youth ministry to meet. Please mark your calendars and plan to join in for the conversation, fellowship, food and fun that are being planned.[Unless otherwise noted, the5:00 PM ministry will be for theBible Study/Christian Ed/ LLL/Youth groups.]

November 14 - 5:00 PM ministry & 6:00 PM Thanksgiving Dinner
Our plans are that everything will happen under the theme of Thanksgiving. With that in mind, we are asking each person to bring with them an item that we can use as we provide the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal to a family that we have adopted. Items to bring include: canned vegetables, stuffing or dressing mix, some form of cranberries (canned, so they will keep), and anything else you think would be a wonderful treat for a Thanksgiving meal. We will deliver your gifts, making certain that we supplement anything not received (such as the turkey).

Nominations for Vestry will be printed in our December Herald. Please note that we will have only one worship service on December 12th, and the time for that service has been moved to 10:00 a.m. Sunday School will be held at 9:00 a.m.

CHICKS (USC) or COWS (CU)
To help support the ongoing Heifer International project that our Sunday School children are participating in, we are offering donuts for sale between our worship service on November 21st in the Parish Hall. The much loved and dreaded rivalry of the Clemson--Carolina game is drawing near. To up the ante, we want to see who can buy the most donuts: Clemson or Carolina? All donations are appreciated (Dont want all those donuts? Then just vote for your favorite team with your donation!) and will help the children in their endeavor to help others!

We Need Your Help to Help Others
During the month of November, St. Johns will be collecting Christmas meal items. Please bring your donation and place it in the red wagon in the narthex or in the grocery cart in the parish hall.
Red wagon Sunday is November 21st - let's have a full wagon to bring up!

Nursery available in Parish Hall during all services.Doodle Bags are available in the back of the church to keep little hands busy: they include coloring books, crayons, books, and stickers!
