Founded in 1946, Pickens Brothers was formed and specialized in grading. Harold Pickens, Sr. purchased the interest from his brother Fred Pickens in 1948 and the name of the company was changed to Harold Pickens Construction Company. From 1948 through 1956, the company specialized in highway construction jobs.
In 1956 Harold Pickens, Jr. (Drew) joined the firm. The company discontinued grading and highway construction to specialize in utility construction. The name of the company was changed to Harold A. Pickens & Sons, and they began to install water and sewer lines throughout the Southeast. Robert (Bobby) Pickens joined the company in 1959 and William (Billy) Pickens became a member of the company in 1961. When Harold Pickens, Sr. died in 1961 the three sons took over management of the company. The company continued to specialize in sewer and water lines, grading, storm drainage, concrete curb, stone base, and paving.
Today, Pickens Construction, Inc. is owned by William B. Pickens, Jr., who has been employed with the company since 1985, after graduating from Clemson University with a BS degree in Economics. The company focuses on the same principles that it was founded on in 1945.
