The Miracle of Adoption
Between 500,000 and 1 million couples seek to adopt in the United States every year — approximately 3,000 or more of those reside in South Carolina. Sixty percent of successful adoption efforts are international or private adoptions or are with the participation of the Department of Social Services. Forty percent are step-parent or family adoptions.
Therefore, given those weighty statistics, many couples have been known to contact an adoption agency or their local department of social services only to find waiting lists just to get on other waiting lists.
