The Humane Society wants to thank everyone who joined us on Saturday, October 30, for our Pet Halloween Costume Contest at Chick-fil-A in Lexington.
We were pleased to see more than 30 pets compete, and all of the contestants (with some help from their owners) did a remarkable job at coming up with some VERY creative costumes! With so many great costumes, it was hard to pick the winners, but our judges put their heads together to come up with winners in four categories:
Best Overall Costume (Grand Prize) went to Molly, who was dressed as a witch.
Best Halloween Spirit prize went to Duke, who was dressed in a devil costume.
Most Creative winner was a team of Bean, Coco, and Pippin, who were dressed as Duck, Duck, Goose.
The Best Chick-fil-A Costume was worn by Oreo.
We want to extend a special thanks to our sponsors and judges: Kim Collins and Chick-fil-A of Lexington, Mary Lipton with Pupcakes Pet Boutique, Jeff Bolen from Doody Calls of Columbia, Billy Williams with Animal Supply House of Lexington, Jason Laramee from Columbia Marionette Theatre, and Michelle Herman from the Humane Societys Board of Directors.
Thanks again to all who participated for making this a fun family event for everyone well look forward to seeing you next year!
When The Humane Society sees the cruelty and neglect that animals like Maggie have endured, it breaks our heart and makes us furious! We know youll feel the same when you hear her story.
Maggie was found by our Cruelty Investigator back in October. She lived her life chained to a tree. Without proper food and water, Maggie was eating the bark from the tree, to which she was tied, to get any nourishment that she could find. After living like this for several months, Maggies health deteriorated to a critical condition. When our Investigator found her, she was nothing but skin and bones; however, despite her miserable situation, Maggie had a spirit that could not be broken.
Thankfully, there is a happy ending to her story. Maggie was rescued by our Investigator and placed in foster care. A healthy diet and lots of love and affection were just what she needed. Today, Maggie has a new life and even a career! She is part of The Humane Societys Humane Education Team and routinely appears in schools and at community events to help tell the story of The Humane Society and our fight against animal cruelty.
On behalf of Maggie and all her furry friends, we extend our most heartfelt thanks.
