First Physical Therapy
Recognizing the need employers have to get injured workers seen and treated promptly and effectively, First Physical Therapy was founded to bring fully operational outpatient physical therapy clinics to the Columbia area. FPT has clinics operating in Northeast Columbia, Lexington, Batesburg-Leesville and Camden SC.

FPT specialized in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy and takes pride in providing comprehensive treatment of work related injuries in order to get patients functioning as quickly as possible.
We can typically see patients within 24-48 hours and often are able to work patients in on the same day. Our clinics have convenient parking and easy in-out access making it simple for patients to get the treatment they need.

Mark Bussell is the clinical director of our Northeast office. He has recently become an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, which put him as one of only twelve physical therapists in the state of South Carolina to receive this title. He emphasizes the treatment of chronic pain using his comprehensive manual approach and is excited about the possibility of teaching and researching a technique called Intraneural Facilitation which he developed and has since had excellent results with fibromyalgia and chronic pain patients. Mr. Bussell graduated from the University of Loma Linda, San Bernadino, CA in 1989. He received his Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy.

James Mullenax is the clinical director for our Camden office. James believes in manual approach and also has started a golf conditioning program at this clinic. He is focusing his approach on the spine, and has also been trained by Tom Boers, P.T., FAAOMPT, who is one of the worlds leading physical therapists that treats professional golfers and top political figures, including a past U.S. president. It is this training combined with all of the other courses he has taken that allows James to work well with a variety of surgery and accident patients. Mr. Mullenax received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. He completed graduate work, earning a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from North Georgia College and State University.

John Oviedo is a physical therapist in our Northeast office. He takes a manual approach with his patients and includes massage therapy in much of his work. He also employs the Graston technique, which is an up-and-coming technique employed by few here in Columbia, SC. John is a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where he majored in Exercise Science and received his Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy.

Tony Brundage, our most recent addition to our team, is the clinical director in the Lexington office. He is our most experienced therapist, with over 15 years of experience. He has managed several other clinics before settling here at First Physical Therapy. Tony is well versed in all areas of therapy and has been incorporating all that our office has to offer with his own skills. He also served 14 years in the US Army prior to receiving his Bachelor of Science from the Medical University of South Carolina, Cum Laude.
