We live in a day that people are longing for things that are genuine. Everywhere you turn there are substitutes for the real thing. Go to any restaurant and you will find placed on the table yellow, pink and blue packets that are substitutes for sugar. We all can attest that none of these are like the real thing. There is no substitute for the sweetness that comes from pure sugar. There is also no substitute for real faith. Our world is in need of tasting real faith. Unfortunately sometimes our lives look more like a yellow, blue or pink pack, instead of the white one that is based on the time-tested faith. Over the next nine weeks we are going to study the letters of John and learn how to be the person that God wants us to be. We will discover that how we live means more than what we say. The world around us needs to see the genuineness of our faith. Hypocrisy and the hide-and-seek games with the world hurt us and the people we are called to influence with our testimony. When we are real we experience the love of God and then are able to love others with that same kind of love. We are able to overcome the lusts of this world for the true love of God found in Jesus Christ. We are able to overcome because we are born of God. My prayer is that we will live our lives keeping it real so that others will come to have the same real faith that is present in our lives.
