The entity now known as Markel Valuation, P.C. ("MVPC"), was formed by John Markel in 1995 as the Valuation and Forensic Accounting Division of Elliott Davis, LLC, a large southeastern regional CPA firm. From 1995 to 2003, the specialized practice grew to include Mr. Markel along with an experienced team of financial analysts. In September 2003, primarily to comply with newly-enacted auditor independence requirements imposed by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Elliott Davis sold the Division outright to Mr. Markel. He and his team of analysts immediately formed MVPC. Elliott Davis continues to subcontract to MVPC for projects requiring their specialized expertise.
