No matter how large or small, antique or contemporary, costly or inexpensive, one thing remains constant...
People LOVE their clocks! Over the years we have heard story after story, such as "this used to belong to my grandmother," or "I learned how to tell time on this clock." Once someone told us, "My husband and I back-packed this clock out of Austria on our honeymoon 25 years ago." And there is one clock on the "More on repair" page which went through Hurricane Hugo in 1989. That's a pretty amazing story!
These stories have reinforced in us over the years the understanding that...
Whether you possess a true heirloom or an inexpensive "novelty" clock, it is yours, and you have come to love it. It has a history...or it soon will...and it holds a special place for you in your home.

Repair, restoration, custom manufacturing
If your clock has stopped running, or runs for little while and then stops, there are several possible reasons for this. It could be out of beat (usually a simple adjustment), in need of cleaning, and/or in need of a repair.
We do it all! We do it with great care...and we guarantee our work!
Sometimes all that is needed is a simple adjustment that can be done right there on the spot in your home at very minimal cost. We won't try to do more than your clock needs at any given time. Of course, if we work on your clock, all the proper adjustments will be made as a part of the service or repair.
Most often a clock's proper working has been affected by a need for a cleaning. The problem is usually not "dirt", but the fact that the oil used in clocks over time becomes hard--almost "rubbery" or even "crusty"--causing friction, rather than helpful lubrication. The good news is that clocks will normally stop themselves under these conditions until a cleaning is done. Adding oil to a sluggish clock without cleaning is a bad idea, because old oil then behaves like an abrasive, causing damage to pivots and bearings, and may then require re-pivoting and bushing work. For a large clock, we will usually remove the movement, take it to the shop, examine it, diassemble it, clean it, reassemble it, oil it and test-run it--then replace it in your case and make the proper adjustments. With smaller clocks it makes more sense to transport the entire clock to the shop where the same basic action is taken.
From broken teeth and new or repaired gears... to broken springs and clickers...to new bushings...a properly-done repair job will get your clock back in working order. One important thing to note is that in some cases, more often with modern or vintage clocks, and almost never with antiques, it might make more sense to replace a movement than to repair it. We will always be sure to tell you which option we think makes the most practical and economical sense, while preserving the value and integrity of your clock...but the choice is always yours.
Whatever your clock needs, we want you and your clock to be happy! We will agree on a price before any work is done, and stick to it. We are confident that you will find our pricing and our guarantee policy to be refreshingly reasonable.
Clock work is a painstaking craft. Parts can be difficult to locate, sometimes coming literally on a slow boat from Europe. If parts cannot be found, they have to be manufactured from scratch in the shop. Once the job is finished, there is the test-running and adjusting time which is a minimum of one week, in order to "baby-sit" the clock through a full cycle. If you want your clock to be up and running by a certain date, please be sure to mention that to us. We will do our best to meet that schedule.
Restoration work may include the movement. Some movements have come to us in boxes of incomplete parts. We have restored them to full function.
Sometimes the case needs repair, or refinishing, or both! Or perhaps the movement needs a whole new case, or vice versa.
Dials can be replaced or restored. Whatever your restoration needs, you can count on a professional job.
