The process can be stressful. A home inspection is supposed to give you peace of mind, but often has the opposite effect. You will be asked to absorb a lot of information in a short time. This includes a written report, checklist, photographs, environmental reports, and what the home inspector says during the inspection. All this combined with the seller's disclosure and what you notice yourself makes the experience even more overwhelming.
ASHI shows us some examples of problems found in inspections, that may not be recognized by an untrained eye:
If you decide to select another home inspection company we highly recommend selecting an ASHI certified home inspector-member. ASHI certification indicates that the inspector has been qualified by performing at least 250 board reviewed home inspections, has passed a proctored examination (not a take home unsupervised exam such as other organizations). And member status indicates that continuing education in the home systems is up to date. Don't cut yourself short with an inspector that can't obtain this member certification. An ASHI inspector may cost more, but theres a reason.
