The first meeting of the South Carolina Knitting Guild was held in May of 1991. At that time the founding mothers "set simple straightforward goals for ourselves: to provide a happy, pleasant atmosphere where we furthered our knowledge of knitting among all our members, and help for our local community with our knitted items." So starts the preface for a collection of charity patterns. These goals remain the philosophy of our guild.
The South Carolina Knitting Guild meets on the second Monday evening of the month at 6:45 PM at the University Center aka McAlister Square. Many members arrive earlier to socialize and knit together. The University Center is located just off Laurens Road, 225 South Pleasantburg Rd, Greenville, SC 29607. To find our meeting, enter through the door near the Camelot Theater. As you enter, you will see a sign for Phillips Staffing.
Ewe's News is our newsletter, which is published monthly. In it you will find details about the monthly meeting, as well as particulars about smaller groups that meet on a regular basis just to knit together and enjoy each other's company. A pattern, usually for charity is included with the newsletter. There is also information about the local yarn shops and a list of websites of interest to knitters.
Members of the guild encompass a wide range of ages and levels of knitting experience. Anyone is welcome to attend two meetings as a guest. You can also join the guild by just signing up. Our guild dues are just $20 per year.
